On Wenlock Edge

Friday, February 28, 2020, 7:30pm &
Saturday, February 29, 2020, 7:30pm
First Presbyterian Church
8001 Mesa Drive, Austin, Texas 78731

Favorite Austin Artists Jeffrey Jones-Ragona (tenor), the Artisan String Quartet (Patrice Calixte, Caleb Hans Polashek, Bruce Williams, and Douglas Harvey), and Martha Mortensen Ahern (pianist) will present the rarely performed song cycle On Wenlock Edge by Ralph Vaughan Williams in its original 1911 version. This work is based on the incredibly evocative poetry drawn from A. E. Houseman’s "A Shropshire Lad" with themes of confronting one’s past, losing love, and ultimately, finding oneself. For a bit of high drama, there's even a dialogue between a ghost and his friend who betrayed him. The Artisan String Quartet will also perform Dvorak’s Quartet Op. 51. Visit the ACE Artists page to learn about our artists.

Listen to the KMFA Interview with Dianne Donovan, Martha Ahern, and Jeffrey Jones-Ragona on Classical Austin.

Listen to the KUTX interview with John Aielli, Martha Ahern, and the Artisan String Quartet on the KUTX webpage.

Plan to stay for the post-concert Talk-Back for a chat with the artists!
