You'll be abuzz at the premiere performance of John Lampkin's entertaining Insects: a Musical Entomology in Six Legs for Wind Quintet. Also on the program are Mozart's Clarinet Quintet, Handel's Harp Concerto in B Flat, and PDQ Bach's Schleptet.

Lampkin's lighthearted musical exploration of the insect world was commissioned by a consortium including Austin Chamber Ensemble, and its February performance--at which the composer will be present--is one segment of a nationwide "simultaneous" premiere. Musicians and audience alike will have fun with movements like "Leafhopper Digs Rag-weed" and "Chubby Cockroach Checks the China."

Clarinetist Martha MacDonald and string quartet play Mozart's Clarinet Quintet (KV 581), one of the best-known and well-loved of the composer's works for clarinet. Its "Larghetto" movement is a favorite of student clarinetists for performance at UIL competitions.

To round out the program, Austin Chamber Ensemble proudly presents harpist Kristin Ohlson, a former ACE scholarship recipient currently studying at Southern Methodist University, in Handel's Harp Concerto in B Flat, arranged for harp and string quartet, and PDQ Bach's Schleptet for strings and winds
